They are widely used for Optical Distribution Frame (ODF),fiber optic communication device and equipment, with excellent performance, good stability. We can also call them Fiber optic Flange or Coupler. 

couplers are approximately half the size of an SC coupler and utilize zirconia sleeves for precision alignment. These couplers are available in both simplex and duplex versions and mount into rectangular panel cutouts.
